Worldwizard
A downloadable game
A print-and-play collaborative world-building game for 1-8 players.
Follow the development of a fantasy setting through four Ages: Primordial, Prehistoric, Ancient, and Present. Using an action point system, players take turns adding regions, terrain features, civilizations, demigods, heroes, monsters, events, and more, supported by simple rules that determine outcomes when those elements interact. 10 different tables are provided to prompt ideas.
While designed primarily as a setting creation tool for fantasy RPG campaigns, Worldwizard also works as a standalone game.
Game files include the rules, a player reference handout, 2 blank hexmaps (8.5"x11" and 11"x17"), and 10 hexmaps with continents outlined.

Simple to run and extremely effective. It's a blast and really helps to get players bought-in for a new campaign. I like the way it nudges players away from wrecking other player's plans / encourages you to work collaboratively to tell a tale. An easy recommend.
Just did a read through and this looks great. I do have a rules clarification question. If a player passes their turn and therefore rolls on the event/disaster table, are those events only allowed to affect the people/avatars that they themselves steward or are they allowed to affect the creations of other players with their events/disasters? I couldn't find it specified in the rules but I would imagine the stewards would get the final say in a how a disaster affects their people/avatars/cities.
Yeah, the lack of clarity on that point is an oversight on my part. Overall you're encouraged to respect the work of the other players, so I would say yes, you're right -- stewards should have final say on whether a disaster impacts their creations.
I bought the game on DriveThru and it looks awesome! Any chance you might make the terrain icons available as separate PNGs to download to use with collaborate online drawing tools? My group is remote so we're going to have to somehow draw the map remotely…
I recommend https://hextml.playest.net/ as your online drawing tool. The working map can be downloaded and passed from one player to the next. Use screen share while each player takes their turn.
Hi -- At the moment I don't have the time to set up those icons, so I second NoizyDragon's suggestion. I've also played Worldwizard using Miro, where it's easy to draw and then copy and paste icons.
If an Avatar from Prehistoric age survive until Present age, do they become both immortal and long-lived?
The intention is that "long-lived" means they have a longer lifespan than usual, and immortal means they will not die by natural causes. So immortal replaces long-lived.
Thank you!
I am currently playing solo pretending to be 3 different deities. This has been a blast and is the most straight forward world building game I have seen thus far.
Question though, are you supposed to only take one action per turn? I am only to the end of the primordial age, but I feel like they will never run out of AP if they are only using one action (at most 4 AP) a round while getting 2d6 per round.
You're supposed to get 2d6 AP per AGE, not per ROUND ;)
I saw a post about this on r/rpg on reddit last week, fell in love with it, printed it out, and played it this past weekend with a group of friends. I ended up printing the 50x30 grid at 3 times size and taping it together. We only made it to the Ancient Age, but we had an absolute blast!
We had a group of about 6. Some were into RPGs, a couple weren't really, but there was such a fun creative energy to the table that I can't describe and everyone said they want to do it again. We ran out of steam after about 4 hours and agreed we want to play again either over multiple sessions or just make a big long day out of it sometime with some breaks in between ages. I am jazzed to try this game out with my other gaming friends soon. I've just been printing out materials and figuring out scheduling.
Thank you for making this!
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience! I'm really glad to hear that people are having fun with it.
This looks fantastic, and I can't wait to try it with my group. A couple small editing notes as I read through it:
Thanks for the notes, I'll fold them into the next round of edits!
I had found the "Do a Deed" issue on page 12 as well. Good to confirm the roll should be 2d6.
I loved my read of this today, it’s super slick and easy to understand while also having massive potential! I love when a group makes the setting together before play and this handles it in an elegantly mechanized and guided way that’s going to have every player hooked into the world and tons of potential for new adventure. Really well done.
Thanks!
Found this from Yochai's NSR Cauldron post of Jack Edward's Blog review.
I just did a quick mock run through the game and now I can't wait to get this in front of some groups (including my kids and wife for our next game!).
Awesome! If you feel like sharing your experience afterwards, I'm sure people on the Lampblack & Brimstone discord would love to hear about it:

This looks great! Any Chance for Community Copies?
I'm looking into it...
Super fun! I had a blast playing Dawn of Worlds back in college so having a new take on it is awesome.
Glad to hear it! I found Dawn of Worlds pretty inspiring (obviously).
